SL Govt. has taken measures to strengthen good governance in the country - Defence Secretary
Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa opening the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) at the Sri Lanka Police Stall at the Deyata Kiru;la Exhibition premises on  Thursday (27) said  that the main objective of inventing of such a programme is to form good governance and a peaceful living environment in the country. He said that this system developed solely by the Sri Lankan Information Technology   Engineers  will also strengthen good governance since such a system paves the way to facilitate people identification, while assisting the security personnel to apprehend suspects and convicted persons."

"Those leveling baseless allegations must look into such social benefiting research based developments  taken to strengthen good governance in the country rather than paying attention into internal matters" he further emphasised.

With the introduction of AFIS, Sri Lanka became the first South Asian country which has invented such a sophisticated technology to identify criminals. The system enables  police to ascertain the identity of criminals within three minutes which hitherto was more time consumin

Secretary Defence also participated in distributing Ranaviru Student Scholarships for five students and three-wheelers for war heroes under the patronage of the Ranaviru Seva Authority 

Title  deeds for houses were  presented to five war heroes  under the aegis of the Tri-Service and Police Welfare Divisions. Stationary items for school children were also presented.

K. Illangakoon, Defence Ministry Officials, Senior Military Officers, state officials, service personnel, students and parents were present at the event.
